About George S May International Company
George S May comes from Illinois farm country, but God never meant him as a farmer. He was whisked away from his bible selling job to work for a company that made farm equipment. That’s where he learned the ropes of business.
George S May had married by 1924 and started his very own family. May was yearning for success, so he then sent out many letters to dozens of prominent Chicago area businesses. The letters highlighted his business problem solving skills. His persistence paid off when he was awarded a consulting assignment by the Chicago Flexible Shaft Company. The company was forerunner of the Sunbeam Corporation. George S May leveraged his first consulting job to form the George S May Company on February 1, 1925.
In addition to starting his own company, George S May held large numbers of PGA golf tournaments at his country club, the Tam O’Shanter, and went on to fame as one of golf's most preeminent promoters.
Management consulting for small and medium business―the very term had become nearly synonymous with George S May by 1962, when the world lost him. He was 71 when he shuffled off his mortal coil and joined the choir invisible.
